eIF5A는 번역 신장 과정에 관여하는 mRNA 결합 단백질로, mRNA turnover, actin dynamics, 세포 주기 조절, 스트레스 반응 및 세포벽 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 TP53/p53 의존적 세포사멸, TNF-α 매개 세포사멸 조절, 신경세포 생존 및 분화, 근육 줄기세포 분화에도 관여합니다. HIV-1 및 HTLV-1의 Rev/Rex 단백질의 세포 내 보조인자로서 레트로바이러스 전사체의 mRNA 수출에도 필수적입니다.
