Target Information
Major histocompatibility (MHC) class II molecules are transmembrane proteins essential for immune system development and regulation. The protein encoded by the RFXAP gene forms a complex with regulatory factor X-associated ankyrin-containing protein and regulatory factor-5, binding to the X box motif of certain MHC class II gene promoters to activate transcription. This complex further associates with MHC class II transactivator, determining cell type specificity and inducibility of MHC class II gene expression. Mutations in RFXAP are linked to bare lymphocyte syndrome type II, complementation group D. Transcript variants using different polyA signals have been identified.
