Target Information
Kinesins are microtubule-dependent motor proteins responsible for distributing organelles, vesicles, and macromolecular complexes throughout the cell.
KIF1B, a member of the KIF1/Unc104 family, is involved in mitochondrial and synaptic vesicle transport in axons. It is an amino-terminal-type motor protein expressed ubiquitously, with high levels in differentiated nerve cells.
The human KIF1B gene maps to chromosome 1p36.2, and mutations can lead to peripheral neuropathy. The mouse KIF1B gene produces two isoforms via alternative splicing.
