Target Information

This gene is a homolog of the Drosophila glial cells missing gene, which acts as a binary switch between neuronal and glial cell determination. The encoded protein contains a conserved N-terminal GCM motif with DNA-binding activity and functions as a transcription factor, serving as a master regulator of parathyroid development. It may mediate calcium effects on parathyroid hormone expression and secretion. Mutations are associated with hypoparathyroidism.
