YY1 is a ubiquitously distributed transcription factor belonging to the GLI-Kruppel class of zinc finger proteins. It functions in both repression and activation of various promoters. YY1 may recruit histone deacetylases and histone acetyltransferases to promoters, thereby influencing gene expression through histone modification.
