Target Information
The serum amyloid A (SAA) family comprises multiple apolipoproteins, including acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2, with SAA1 being the major plasma component. Although primarily synthesized in the liver, extrahepatic production has been reported. In vivo concentrations can increase up to 1000-fold during inflammation. SAA is important in the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases, often rising earlier and more sharply than CRP. Recent studies have expanded understanding of SAA expression and function.
