Target Information
BEST3 (Bestrophin 3) is a member of the bestrophin family of anion channels, which includes BEST1, BEST2, and BEST4.
BEST1 mutations are associated with vitelliform macular dystrophy (VMD).
Bestrophins are transmembrane proteins characterized by a conserved region rich in aromatic residues, including an invariant arg-phe-pro (RFP) motif.
The bestrophin genes share a conserved gene structure with nearly identical exon sizes and conserved exon-intron boundaries, while each gene possesses a unique 3'-end of variable length.
