Target Information
SLC12A6 (KCC3) belongs to the K-Cl cotransporter (KCC) family. These integral membrane proteins reduce intracellular chloride concentrations below the electrochemical equilibrium potential. They are activated by cell swelling under hypotonic conditions. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms. Mutations in SLC12A6 are associated with agenesis of the corpus callosum with peripheral neuropathy.
