Target Information

The BAD protein is a member of the BCL-2 family, known as regulators of programmed cell death. It promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic functions. The proapoptotic activity of BAD is regulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, as well as phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
