Target Information
The CD204 (MSR1) gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three isoforms (types 1, 2, and 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric membrane glycoproteins are involved in various physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
- Type 1 and 2 isoforms: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs.
- Type 3 isoform: Lacks endocytosis capability due to altered intracellular processing and retention in the endoplasmic reticulum. It may inhibit the function of types 1 and 2, suggesting a regulatory role in scavenger receptor activity.
Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
