Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

Anti-Glutamine Synthetase (microbial) antibody is an IgG fraction purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis against the buffer stated above. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Biotin, anti-Goat Serum, as well as purified and partially purified Glutamine Synthetase [Microbial]. Cross-reactivity against Glutamine Synthetase from other sources is unknown.

Target Information

Glutamine synthetase is part of the glutamine synthetase family. Ammonia incorporation in animals occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthetase. Glutamate plays a central role in mammalian nitrogen flow, serving as both a nitrogen donor and acceptor. It also regulates neurotransmitter glutamate metabolism. Because of its multiple functions and importance in cellular metabolism, both catalytic activities and synthesis of GS are tightly regulated. The activity of GS is controlled by adenylylation and is known to decrease in the cerebral cortex of brains affected by Alzheimer’s disease, particularly near senile plaques, and under conditions of glucose deprivation.
