Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two subclasses: one utilizes NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been identified: three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The IDH1 gene encodes the NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase located in the cytoplasm and peroxisomes, containing a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal.
This enzyme participates in NADPH regeneration for peroxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
