Target Information
Arylsulfatase B belongs to the sulfatase family. The enzyme hydrolyzes sulfate groups of N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, chondroitin sulfate, and dermatan sulfate. It is localized to the lysosome. Deficiency of this enzyme causes mucopolysaccharidosis type VI, an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
