Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC transporters move various molecules across intra- and extra-cellular membranes and are classified into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This protein is a member of the MDR/TAP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. It acts as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump with broad substrate specificity, contributing to decreased drug accumulation in multidrug-resistant cells and mediating resistance to anticancer drugs. It also functions as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
