Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV.
It is primarily expressed in T-helper lymphocytes but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
CD4 expression is detectable in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of the brain and gut.
It plays a key role in early T-cell activation via interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase.
Additionally, CD4 may mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-related CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
