Target Information
ATP-dependent calcium pumps maintain low cytoplasmic calcium concentrations. The ATP pumps in intracellular organelles are encoded by the SERCA (sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium) ATPase family.
- SERCA1: Expressed in type II (fast) skeletal muscle
- SERCA2: Generates tissue-dependent isoforms
- SERCA2a: Type I (slow) skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle
- SERCA2b: Expressed in all cell types
- SERCA3: Found in non-muscle cells, less characterized
