Product Specific Information

This antibody stains beta (β) cells of the Langerhans islets in human pancreas.
Note: Prolonged fixation in buffered formalin can destroy the epitope.

Target Information

Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by β-cells of the pancreatic islets. It regulates carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism by enhancing membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions. It promotes glycogen storage, triglyceride formation, and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids.
Insulin is a 51-amino acid polypeptide produced from the precursor peptide proinsulin, which is cleaved into two chains (A and B) linked by disulfide bonds and one molecule of C-peptide.
Deficiency of insulin results in diabetes mellitus, a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Insulin is also present in β-cell–derived tumors such as insulinoma.
