Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody eBio8D9 reacts with an epitope shared by mouse CD21 (CR2) and CD35 (CR1).
CD21 and CD35 are splice variants from the Cr2 gene, producing surface proteins of 145 and 190 kDa respectively. They are expressed on mature B cells, but not on thymocytes, peripheral T cells, erythrocytes, or platelets. Some evidence indicates expression on macrophages.
CD21 serves as a receptor for complement component C3d and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Together with CD19 and CD81, CD21 participates in B-cell activation through the B-cell receptor.
Cr2-deficient mice show impaired inflammatory and humoral immune responses.
The anti-mouse CD21/35 monoclonal antibody clones eBio4E3 and eBio8D9 bind to different epitopes and do not cross-block each other.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse splenocytes at ≤0.5 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Cell numbers may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Target Information
CD21 (CR2):
Binds C3 complement fragments and plays roles in immunocomplex uptake, memory B cell survival, and humoral immune response development. Serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and is involved in prion targeting to dendritic cells.
CD35 (CR1):
Encodes a membrane glycoprotein found on blood cells, podocytes, and dendritic cells. Acts as a receptor for C3b and C4b, regulating complement cascade activity. Variations define the Knops blood group system. A soluble plasma form has been described.
