Target Information

Interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a soluble T cell-derived factor that induces B cell and eosinophil growth and differentiation.
IL-5 exerts its biological activity through the IL-5 receptor (IL-5R), composed of two chains:

• Alpha chain: binds IL-5 with low affinity
• Beta chain: forms high-affinity receptor complex with alpha chain

The cytoplasmic domains of both chains are essential for signal transduction.
The membrane-proximal proline-rich sequence of the IL-5Rα cytoplasmic domain is critical for IL-5–induced proliferation, nuclear proto-oncogene expression, and tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins such as JAK1 and JAK2.
