Target Information
Steroid receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that regulate transcription of specific genes upon activation by hormones. Prior to activation, these receptors form complexes with various proteins such as heat shock proteins (HSP70, HSP90), immunophilins (FKBP52, FKBP54, CyP-40), and other co-chaperones including p23, p60, and p48.
The p23 protein, encoded by human PTGES3, consists of 160 amino acids, is highly conserved across species, and is a highly acidic phosphoprotein with multiple phosphorylation sites. It interacts with HSP90 and is required for the association of HSP90 and CyP-40 with the progesterone receptor (PR), playing an important role in PR function.
