Target Information
The BAIAP2 protein (Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1-associated protein 2) acts as an adaptor linking membrane-bound G-proteins to cytoplasmic effectors. It functions as an insulin receptor tyrosine kinase substrate, suggesting a role for insulin in the central nervous system.
BAIAP2 is associated with Rho GTPase signaling, contributing to stress fiber and cytokinesis formation, lamellipodia and filopodia development, and neuronal growth-cone guidance.
It also interacts with the dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy gene, linked to an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
