Target Information
Neurog3 protein contains one basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain. It is both necessary and sufficient to induce endocrine islet cell differentiation from embryonic pancreatic progenitors. It initiates endocrine cell differentiation, promotes islet cell maturation, and maintains islet function. Neurogenin 3 can redirect the differentiation of bipotential secretory progenitors to endocrine rather than goblet cell fate.
