Target Information
Cardiac Troponin I (TnI, Troponin I, Cardiac-specific troponin I) is an integral inhibitory protein in cardiac muscle, forming a complex with troponin C (TnC) and troponin T (TnT). TnT binds to tropomyosin, forming a troponin–tropomyosin complex anchored by TnI binding to actin within thin filaments. Calcium binding to TnC induces a structural change that releases the inhibitory region of TnI, enabling myosin attachment and muscle contraction. Measurement of blood TnI and TnT levels serves as a diagnostic indicator for cardiac muscle damage, aiding differentiation between angina and myocardial infarction. Cardiac Troponin I also inhibits angiogenesis and mutations in its gene are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 (CMH7) and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM).
