Target Information
Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies. The inflammatory caspases (including caspase-1, -4, -5, and -12) are associated with immune responses rather than cell death. Activation of these caspases leads to cleavage and activation of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18.
Caspase-5 interacts with caspase-1 as part of the NALP1 inflammasome, triggering cleavage of pro-IL-1β. Expression of caspase-5 can be regulated by LPS and IFN-γ.
