Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is one of the highly conserved mini-chromosome maintenance (MCM) proteins involved in the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication. The hexameric complex formed by MCM proteins is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) and plays a role in replication fork formation and recruitment of other DNA replication-related proteins.
MCM3 is a subunit of the MCM2–7 complex and interacts directly with MCM5/CDC46. It also interacts with MCM3AP, a chromatin-associated acetyltransferase, which acetylates MCM3, thereby inhibiting DNA replication initiation and cell cycle progression.
