PPP5C encodes a serine/threonine phosphatase belonging to the protein phosphatase catalytic subunit family. Members of this family regulate pathways through reversible phosphorylation at serine and threonine residues, influencing cell growth and differentiation. PPP5C participates in signaling pathways responsive to hormones or cellular stress, and elevated levels may be associated with breast cancer development. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
