Target Information
Adipose tissue acts as an energy reserve and produces several key proteins such as lipoprotein lipase (LPL), leptin, Acrp30, perilipin, and resistin.
Resistin, also known as Adipocyte Secreted Factor (ADSF) and FIZZ3, is a cytokine secreted by adipocytes. It plays potential roles in type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.
In obese, diabetic mice, serum resistin levels are elevated, antagonizing insulin activity. Studies indicate that resistin gene expression depends on C/EBP alpha and is influenced by CBP and p300 coactivators through histone acetylation. PPAR gamma and RXR ligands have been shown to downregulate resistin expression in adipocytes.
