Target Information
DNA replication, recombination, and repair processes essential for genomic stability require exonucleases. During DNA replication, these enzymes process Okazaki fragments, while in DNA repair they excise damaged DNA and correct mismatches. The DNA polymerase family—including alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—participates in these functions. DNA pol delta and epsilon are multisubunit enzymes; DNA pol delta includes p125, which interacts with PCNA, and p50. DNA pol gamma is responsible for mitochondrial DNA replication. DNA pol zeta mediates damage-induced mutagenesis, and DNA pol theta functions as a DNA polymerase-helicase involved in interstrand crosslink repair.
