Target Information
MEI1 (Meiosis inhibitor protein 1), also known as Meiosis defective protein 1, is a 1274 amino acid protein required for the formation of genetically programmed double-strand breaks during meiosis initiation. It is predominantly expressed in testis, and defects in the MEI1 gene may cause male infertility due to meiotic arrest. Genetic variation in MEI1 may predispose certain populations to infertility. Human MEI1 shares 79% sequence similarity with its mouse homolog and has seven isoforms produced by alternative splicing.
