Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL-2 protein family, which regulates apoptosis through hetero- or homodimer formation.
It contains conserved BH4, BH1, and BH2 domains and interacts with other BCL-2 family members such as BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and BAX.
Overexpression of this gene may suppress apoptosis by preventing cytochrome C release from mitochondria, thereby affecting caspase-3 activation.
In mouse, it interacts with Apaf1 and forms a complex with Caspase 9, suggesting involvement in the APAF1–CASPASE 9 apoptotic pathway.
