Target Information
CD55 (decay-accelerating factor, DAF) is a GPI-anchored membrane glycoprotein that protects autologous cells from complement cascade activation. It interacts bidirectionally with CD97, playing a role in T cell regulation and complement control.
In tumors, CD55 promotes neoangiogenesis, tumorigenesis, invasiveness, and apoptosis evasion.
CD55 is a 70 kDa glycoprotein (in erythrocytes) anchored via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol tail, with higher molecular weight in other cells due to O-glycan content.
It binds activated C4b or C3b fragments on cell surfaces, preventing assembly and accelerating decay of complement pathways.
CD55 carries Cromer-related blood group antigens. Two alternatively spliced transcripts exist — one encoding a membrane-bound form and another encoding a soluble form at lower levels.
CD55 has been studied for its role in prostate cancer growth and survival.
