Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) is a nuclear-encoded protein transported to mitochondria, where it plays a key role in maintaining and expressing mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). It regulates mtDNA replication and transcription, ensuring proper mitochondrial function.

TFAM contains an LC3 interacting region (LIR) motif that enables binding to autophagy proteins such as LC3. This interaction supports the autolysosomal pathway, eliminating leaked mtDNA and limiting inflammation. TFAM levels vary across tissues and influence mitochondrial function—high TFAM levels can repress mtDNA expression in skeletal muscle, affecting oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), while in the heart, an increased mtDNA copy number maintains a balanced TFAM-to-mtDNA ratio, preserving OXPHOS capacity.

Disruptions in TFAM can lead to mitochondrial dysfunction, neurodegeneration, and other diseases associated with mtDNA stress.
