Target Information
VE-cadherin (CD144) is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein belonging to the cadherin superfamily. It is located in a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16 and is implicated in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. The protein consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. VE-cadherin facilitates homophilic cell adhesion and plays a critical role in endothelial cell cohesion and intercellular junction organization. An alternative splice variant has been described, though the full-length sequence has not been determined.
