Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell specific surface glycoprotein. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T-cell costimulatory receptor, providing the essential second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It also prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state. In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4⁺ and CD8⁺ T cells express CD28, with expression levels varying during thymocyte maturation. CD28 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
