Product Specific Information

  • The theoretical molecular weight of DISC1 is approximately 90 kDa.
  • Due to alternative splicing, DISC1 may also appear at ~75 kDa and ~100 kDa.
  • Suggested positive control: human brain sections (neurons and glia).

Target Information

DISC1 (Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1) is a multifunctional protein that interacts with centrosomal and cytoskeletal proteins, playing a crucial role in neuronal functions such as migration, neurite architecture, and intracellular transport. It is expressed in brain regions including the hippocampus, lateral septum, amygdala, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and paraventricular hypothalamus.
Loss of DISC1 function is associated with altered brain structural organization and linked to schizophrenia due to chromosomal translocations. DISC1 interacts with proteins such as MIPT3, MAP1A, NUDEL, α-actinin 2, β4-spectrin, ATF-4, and ATF-5, suggesting roles in intracellular transport, neurite architecture, and neuronal migration.
Reduced DISC1 expression leads to abnormal neuronal development, indicating its involvement in dendritic growth and synapse formation.
