Target Information
Synaptotagmins are a large gene family of synaptic vesicle type III integral membrane proteins that regulate both exocytosis and endocytosis, playing key roles in neurotransmitter secretion.
- Synaptotagmin I: Binds calcium to trigger neurotransmitter release at the synapse.
- Synaptotagmin II: Phosphorylated by WNK1, regulating calcium-dependent interactions.
- Synaptotagmin III: Involved in calcium-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles in endocrine cells and neurons.
- Synaptotagmin IV: Expressed in neuronal tissues, with highest mRNA levels in the hippocampus.
