Target Information
This gene is a member of the glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) super-family, which encodes multifunctional enzymes crucial for detoxification of electrophilic molecules such as carcinogens, mutagens, and therapeutic drugs through conjugation with glutathione.
It also plays a key role in phenylalanine and tyrosine catabolism. Defects in this enzyme may cause metabolic disorders such as alkaptonuria, phenylketonuria, and tyrosinaemia.
Several transcript variants of this gene encode multiple protein isoforms.
