The High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) Colorimetric Assay Kit is a reliable and sensitive assay designed for quantitative measurement of HDL-C in serum, plasma, culture supernatant, tissue, and cells.
HDL-C is an anti-atherosclerotic lipoprotein that transports cholesterol from extrahepatic tissues to the liver for metabolism and excretion of bile. Its plasma level is negatively correlated with cardiovascular disease risk.
Assay Principle
The assay is based on the enzymatic reaction of HDL-C with cholesterol esterase and cholesterol oxidase, producing hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide reacts with 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA) and phenol (T-OOS) to form a red quinone compound, which has a maximum absorbance at 546 nm.
HDL-C concentration is calculated by measuring OD at 546 nm.
