Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on the surface of macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays a critical role in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. CD36 mediates recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells, and is implicated in malaria pathogenesis. It functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, and mutations in this gene can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
