Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on various cell types such as macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. CD36 recognizes and uptakes oxidized low-density lipoproteins, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells, and is implicated in malaria pathogenesis. It serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and binds to collagen, anionic phospholipids, and oxidized LDL. Mutations in CD36 cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency, and multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist. Diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
