Target Information
MMS19 is a key component of the cytosolic iron-sulfur protein assembly (CIA) complex, which mediates the incorporation of iron-sulfur clusters into apoproteins involved in DNA metabolism and genomic integrity. Within the CIA complex, MMS19 functions as an adapter between early-acting CIA components and target iron-sulfur proteins such as ERCC2/XPD, FANCJ, and RTEL1, playing a critical role in nucleotide excision repair (NER) and RNA polymerase II (POL II) transcription.
As part of the mitotic spindle-associated MMXD complex, MMS19 contributes to chromosome segregation, likely by facilitating iron-sulfur cluster assembly into ERCC2/XPD. It also acts indirectly as a transcriptional coactivator of estrogen receptor (ER) through its role in iron-sulfur insertion into TFIIH machinery components.
