Target Information
Cell division cycle associated 2 (CDCA2, also known as Repo-Man) is a cell-cycle protein that recruits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) to mitotic chromatin at anaphase onset, essential for cell proliferation. Phosphorylation of CDCA2 at Ser893 by Aurora B inhibits its function, while dephosphorylation by PP2A allows reformation of the CDCA2/PP1 complex, which is required for chromatin binding and histone H3 dephosphorylation.
The CDCA2/PP1 complex is also involved in nuclear envelope reformation during mitotic exit and may play a role in DNA repair. Increased CDCA2 expression has been observed in several cancers, including melanoma, neuroblastoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and synovial sarcomas, suggesting its potential as a prognostic marker.
