Target Information

TRPV4 (Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel Subfamily V Member 4) is a cation-selective channel activated in response to systemic osmotic pressure. It functions as a non-selective calcium-permeant cation channel involved in osmotic sensitivity and mechanosensitivity.
TRPV4 belongs to the OSM9-like transient receptor potential channel (OTRPC) subfamily within the TRP superfamily of ion channels.
Mutations in the TRPV4 gene are linked to spondylometaphyseal and metatropic dysplasia, as well as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy type IIC.
Diseases associated with TRPV4 include Metatropic Dysplasia and Spondylometaphyseal Dysplasia (Kozlowski Type).
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of this gene have been identified.
