Target Information

Avidin is a glycoprotein found in the egg white and tissues of birds, reptiles, and amphibia. The biotin-binding protein contains four identical subunits with a combined mass of 67,000–68,000 daltons.
Removing the glycosylation from avidin yields NeutrAvidin Protein with a mass of approximately 60,000 daltons. This modification reduces carbohydrate-based lectin binding to undetectable levels while retaining biotin-binding affinity.
NeutrAvidin Protein provides a neutral pI to minimize nonspecific adsorption and retains lysine residues available for derivatization or conjugation. It exhibits the lowest nonspecific binding among known biotin-binding proteins, with a specific activity for biotin-binding of approximately 14 µg/mg of protein, near the theoretical maximum.
