Target Information
Avidin is a glycoprotein found in egg white and tissues of birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The biotin-binding protein consists of four identical subunits with a combined mass of 67,000–68,000 daltons. Removing glycosylation from avidin yields NeutrAvidin Protein with a mass of 60,000 daltons. This modification reduces carbohydrate-based lectin-binding to undetectable levels while retaining biotin-binding affinity.
NeutrAvidin Protein offers:
- Neutral pI minimizing nonspecific adsorption
- Lysine residues available for derivatization or conjugation
- Lowest nonspecific binding among biotin-binding proteins
Specific activity for biotin-binding is approximately 14 µg/mg of protein, near the theoretical maximum.
