Target Information
SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It plays a key role in growth and differentiation of eukaryotic cells, associating with the cytoplasmic region of various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction. SRC also contributes to cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.
In humans, SRC is located on chromosome 20. Its activity is modulated by phosphorylation at Tyr416 and Tyr527 — phosphorylation at Tyr416 increases enzyme activity, while phosphorylation at Tyr527 decreases it. Mutations in SRC have been implicated in malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
