Target Information
ULK1 (Unc-51 Like Autophagy Activating Kinase 1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a critical role in the initial stages of autophagy, a vital response to nutrient starvation.
The conserved C-terminal domain (CTD) of ULK1 regulates its function and localization.
Knockdown of ULK1 inhibits both the autophagic response and rapamycin-induced autophagy, consistent with its downstream role of mTOR.
ULK1 forms a complex with FIP200 and ATG13, which is essential for starvation-induced autophagy.
Both FIP200 and ATG13 are critical for proper localization of ULK1 to the pre-autophagosome and for ULK1 protein stability.
ULK1 is phosphorylated by the mTOR pathway in a nutrient starvation-regulated manner.
