Target Information
Trypsin is a 24 kDa enzyme of the serine proteinase family. It is produced in the pancreas as an inactive precursor, trypsinogen, and becomes active in the gastrointestinal tract, where it degrades proteins into peptides. Trypsin preferentially cleaves lysine and arginine residues. It also activates chymotrypsinogen to chymotrypsin. Elevated immunoreactive trypsin levels in blood can indicate pancreatic dysfunction and are used in screening for cystic fibrosis.
