Target Information
There are three proteins including thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), transthyretin, and albumin responsible for carrying thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the bloodstream.
The SERPINA7 gene encodes the major thyroid hormone transport protein, TBG, in serum. It belongs to the serpin family but lacks inhibitory function.
Mutations in this gene result in TBG deficiency, classified as partial, complete, or excess based on serum TBG levels.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found, though their full-length nature has not been determined.
