Product Specific Information
The transferrin receptor is necessary for cellular iron uptake via receptor-mediated endocytosis. Mice deficient in this receptor show impaired erythroid development and abnormal iron homeostasis.
Target Information
Iron uptake occurs through receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-bound transferrin receptor into endosomes. Acidification releases iron, and the apotransferrin-receptor complex recycles to the cell surface. The transferrin receptor is essential for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) serves as a diagnostic marker for anemia and EPO misuse detection.
